Edith S. Pilzer, M.D.
Dr. Edith Pilzer was born in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Emory University she returned to the buckeye state where she graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine. She thereafter returned to the South. She completed her pediatric residency and pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Emory University. She has been practicing in the Atlanta area since her fellowship completion in 1986.
During Dr. Pilzer's fellowship she was exposed to most aspects of pediatric gastroenterology and enjoys the wide variation in the disease spectrum of such a specialty. Though many of the patients are only seen a few times, there are several patients that she has followed for much of their lives, watching them grow and thrive, and even attending a few weddings of former patients. She most recently saw a patient (in college) who she saw her first month in practice, in November, 1986 (whom she has followed for nearly 20 years!).
Though Dr. Pilzer sees patients with a wide variety of conditions, she has a special interest in the patients with cystic fibrosis. Many people feel that this is a disease of the lungs, but it is a complex condition affecting much of the GI tract. She therefore attends the cystic fibrosis clinic at least one day per week as there are now more than 150 pediatric patients seen in the CHOA CF Clinic at Scottish Rite.
Dr. Pilzer has been on many of the hospital committees in the past, from the medical records and infection control committees, to the executive and credentialing committees. She sees patients at the primary Atlanta office and travels to both Fayetteville and Athens.
Dr. Pilzer has been married for the past 25+ years (to the same person). She has two 'children', one out of college and one at UGA. She has strong family ties and loved watching her children playing sports (primarily softball and lacrosse). She loves to travel, though will never be able to match her daughter's world wide travels, cooks (when home by 6), plays mah jongg, and is an avid walker.
