Jeffery Lewis, M.D.

Dr. Jeffery Lewis, an Atlanta native, has been practicing gastroenterology in Atlanta since 1996. He has been with CCDHC since its inception in 1999. He received his undergraduate degree from Emory and graduated from Wake Forest University Medical School in 1989. He returned to Atlanta to do his pediatric residency at Emory. From 1992-1995 he was a fellow in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School while training at Children's Hospital of Boston and the Massachusetts General Hospital, two of the highest rated teaching hospitals in the world. In order to further enhance his research and clinical skills, he stayed an additional year as a faculty member at Harvard before moving with his wife and two children to Atlanta.

Dr. Lewis has a special interest in a variety of pediatric gastrointestinal disorders. He has participated in research with children in a wide variety of illnesses. His projects have examined treatment of Hepatitis B, acid reflux, and even autism. He currently is conducting research on eosinophilic esophagitis and the role of reflux in severe asthma. He has received private and National Institutes of Health funding for his work and has presented his research at national conferences and published in high quality medical journals.

He is most proud of his founding of the only chapter of R.O.C.K. - Raising Our Celiac Kids, in Georgia. This is a local chapter of a national support group for families affected by celiac disease, an immunologic intolerance to wheat. Dr. Lewis attends our satellite clinics in Gainesville and Lawrenceville. He is a fellow of The American Academy of Pediatrics and has served on several committees. Dr. Lewis has also served on a number of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Committees and is very active in the community as an advocate for children's health. He is currently the chief of gastroenterology for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. He is an active member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and is board certified in pediatrics and gastroenterology. When he's not hard at work for his patients or research, he likes to travel, play baseball or soccer with his kids, spend time with his wife or try to catch up on his sleep!
